For this non-objective (no reference to subject matter) painting I will be utilizing a triadic color combination of blue-green, red-violet and yellow-orange. Blue-green will be my dominant color, red-violet will be the non-dominant color and yellow-orange will be the accent color.

Everyone wants to know how to sell their art online - and many people are doing it successfully. We can only scratch the surface in one video, so I will start with the most important place you should be selling your art online - and that is your website.

Some people think that you don’t have to know how to draw to be an abstract painter - of course you do! You should never use abstract painting as an excuse not to learn to draw. I have students who tell me that they can’t draw a stick figure, so instead of learning how to draw, they have decided to take up abstract painting.

There is a myth out in the art world that you need an art degree to be a good art instructor and/or a good painter. The fact is, that is completely false. A master’s degree is required if you want to teach college courses, but for teaching any other types of classes and workshops a degree is not required. I could be a bit biased here given that I have a degree in architecture, not art.

For this non-objective (no reference to subject matter) painting I will be utilizing an analogous color combination of yellow green, green, blue-green and blue. The yellow-green and green I will use as my accent colors (mostly yellow-green), and the blue-green and blue will dominate the remainder of the painting.

I don’t watch other artists on YouTube, but my students do. They tell me things they hear and ask me if they are true, or usually they simply assume they are true without doing any research to back up what someone says. Lots of what I hear from them ends up being myth, with no substantiation in fact. That brings me to today’s topic of acrylic paint.

In this video demonstration, I do something a little different. I typically pain in a non-objective manner, meaning I don’t reference any subject matter. In this painting however, I will use a reference to subject matter - trees.

You’re selling your art at an outdoor art festival. The following happens - maybe multiple times in a weekend festival:

Potential Customer: We love your paintings, and in particular this one.

You: Thank you. The inspiration for the painting was…. and it’s ready to take home and hang.

Potential Customer: That’s great. We really love it. You’ll be here all day?

You: Yes, I’ll be here all weekend.

Potential Customer: Ok, thanks. We just got here, so we need to look around a little bit, but We’ll BE BACK.
