The Painting of “Trade Winds”

This piece is painting with acrylic paint on a 12x36” gallery wrapped canvas. I used the following GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors:

  • Benz Yellow Light

  • Diarylide Yellow

  • Pyrrole Orange

  • Cadmium Red Medium

  • Quinacridone Magenta

  • Medium Magenta

  • Light Violet

  • Dioxazine Purple

  • Teal

  • Cerulean Blue Deep

  • Minty G (my custom blend)

  • Titanium White

In this painting I was trying to play colors of the same or similar values off of each other rather than creating lots of value contrast. The large shapes of red-orange and blue-green are about the same value, but they are distinguished by the color differences (color contrasts), rather than value contrasts. I used smaller areas of higher contrast and smaller shapes to help create centers of interest.

I painted a mate to this painting and was going to film painting it as well, but forgot to turn on the camera - duh! It’s hard to film when the camera isn’t on! Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
