My Zoom Setup
/My Zoom Setup
In this COVID age everyone has been Zooming - you know, using the Zoom platform to conduct live meetings, conferences, and yes, even art workshops. Maybe you’ve taken a workshop or course on the platform, or maybe you’re thinking about teaching a workshop on the platform for your students. It’s easy to get started and I hope this video gives you the information you need to move forward.
The first thing you should do is download the Zoom app to your computer, preferably a laptop if you have one. The Zoom platform is easy to understand and navigate - maybe in the next video I’ll walk you through some of the functions of it.
Here is what I use for my setup: (I have provided some affiliate links to the products on Amazon)
Apple Macbook Pro laptop
Logitech C920X Pro HD Webcam: https://amzn.to/3qz9l2n
USB Extension Cable: Besgoods 2-pack, 10 ft. length: https://amzn.to/3ipET8e
USB Docking Station: Sabrent 4-Port Hub: https://amzn.to/2Kuf6zb
I have two cameras, both the same. I use one on a tripod to record my activities on my “painting wall.” The other is secured to a boom I use over my painting table, which records activity on the palette. Each camera is connected to a 10 foot long USB extension cable, which then connects to a USB Hub Docking Station, which plugs into my laptop. If you are only using one camera, and the camera is near your laptop, then you don’t need a docking station, just plug the camera into the laptop. Or if you’re using the camera on the laptop, you don’t need anything else!
I also use 4 light boxes to help fully light my painting all and painting table. Again, just keep it simple so you can easily get started. Remember, starting is the most important thing. Getting your teaching out there for others is important. DOn’t get bogged down by the technology. It’s really simple and easy to use.
