The Painting of "Trade Winds 3 and 4"

The Painting of "Trade Winds 3 and 4"

These two pieces are painted with acrylic paint on (2) 12x36” gallery wrapped canvases. I used the following GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors:

  • Benz Yellow Light

  • Diarylide Yellow

  • Pyrrole Orange

  • Cadmium Red Medium

  • Quinacridone Magenta

  • Light Violet

  • Dioxazine Purple

  • Ultramarine Blue

  • Teal

  • Cerulean Blue Deep

  • Minty G (my custom blend)

  • Titanium White

In this painting I was trying to play colors of the same or similar values off of each other rather than creating lots of value contrast. The large shapes of red-orange and blue-green are about the same value, but they are distinguished by the color differences (color contrasts), rather than value contrasts. I used smaller areas of higher contrast and smaller shapes to help create centers of interest.

I painted these two pieces together so that they can be sold as a diptych, displayed either vertically or horizontally. They can also stand alone as separate paintings.
