Artists: Do Your Left Brain and Right Brain Talk to Each Other?
One of the very best art related compliments I ever received was this: “You’re the only artist I know whose left brain and right brain actually talk to each other.” While most of the artists I know have a balance of both sides of the brain, some are just completely out there. I believe it makes sense to have a good balance between the two hemispheres.
The right brain is the more creative side and the left brain is the more analytical side. I believe the best professional artists have a good balance between the two. If both sides of your brain talk to each other it can be a great advantage as an artist: (Most of these come down to organization)
It’s easier to market your work.
It’s easier to put together blog posts and videos on a regular schedule.
It’s easier to communicate with others about your work. This could be communicating with a gallery owner, or communicating with a large group of people in a professional setting.
It helps with setting up standards for things like doing commissions.
It’s essential if you want to be a good teacher. You have to very clearly communicate ideas and intentions to students so that they can easily grasp, and implement the concepts. If you aren’t clear, they won’t learn.
It’s easier to communicate the intent of your work to potential collectors.
It’s easier to write books, ebooks or blog posts.
It’s easier to develop your website.
I firmly believe that those artists who can master the skill of combining the best qualities of left brain and right brain have a much better chance of success than those who cannot.
